What is the theme of your life?

Do you know your life's theme?

  • Yes, clear as day

  • Not a clue

  • Not sure yet

I’ve been thinking lately about how people often wrestle with the question:

“What am I supposed to do with my life?”

It’s a question I’ve heard in coaching sessions more times than I can count. And I get it because 20 years ago, if you'd asked me what I’d be doing now, I never would’ve guessed this.

Back then, I was a builder in the most literal sense. Carpentry was my craft. I built houses, kitchens, stairs, windows, doors, even dog beds. I worked with timber, tools, and my hands. I shaped raw materials into something useful, something solid. And I loved it.

But over time, something shifted. I felt called to build in new ways.

I started my first business a short-lived venture helping developers build more sustainable homes. I contributed to building the family holiday let business.

I joined Beam and began building digital assets, courses, toolkits, communities, and books.

And then, something clicked. The thing I’ve always done the thread that runs through it all is this:

I’m a builder

Architectural plans
Building plans

Now, I build people. I build confidence. I help men rebuild after burnout. I help professionals reshape how they see themselves. I help clients lay stronger foundations and construct better lives.

That’s what led to my latest project Walk It Off: Cardiff Men’s Group. This is more than a meetup. It’s a space I’m building for men to feel heard. To take off the armour, walk side by side, and talk without pressure. It’s a solid, supportive place for connection. And it matters. Because far too many men feel isolated, stuck, or unsure of who they’re supposed to be.

Here’s what I know for sure: We often don’t see the theme in our lives until we’re further down the road. But when we do, it makes everything make sense.

I didn’t leave construction. I just started building things you can’t always see. And right now, I’m building men.
