Having worked as a therapist for over 12 years, I frequently chat to people who are curious about therapy, who have preconceptions about therapy or who have even had a bad experience of therapy. All of this can lead to people not seeking the help and support they need.
We want to stop this and ensure that everyone gets the help and support they need, in a way that works for them!
We are therefore thrilled to release a series of blogs titled "Therapy Insights" with the aim of demystify therapy and mental health. Whether you're a therapy newbie or just looking to learn more, we've got you covered.
What is Therapy?
Therapy is a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and to develop strategies to tackle whatever challenges life is throwing at you. Whether it's a short-term issue or a long-term support system, therapy can be a game-changer. At Beam, we encourage people to see therapy as an opportunity to been in a non judgemental space to explore what is going on in their life whilst learning tools and techniques to overcome them and empower them for the future.
Generally, therapy is very tool and action focussed, the therapist will teach you many of their own tools and strategies to help you feel more in control.
Why Seek Therapy?
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. Therapy isn't just for crises; it’s a proactive step towards maintaining mental well-being. It’s about getting to know yourself better, improving your relationships, and leading a more fulfilling life.
Our clients come for a wide range of reasons and we often explain that therapy is like water. It can work to put out 'fires' such as a crisis, trauma, anxiety, grief but that water can also be used to water seeds and be used in more of a coaching capacity to help you create new beliefs, feel more confident and create positive habits.
We believe that therapy is something everyone could benefit from!
